How do you redye naturaly red hair?

I have naturally red hair that I recently had chunky dark lowlights added too. one of which is a very big piece in the front. I'm not so into it but wonder how to get my red hair back. Should I have the stylist redye it red? Growing it out will look really weird with all the black in the front. help!

That happened to be before. I got highlights that I didnt like much. So I went to walgreens and I found a product that removes unnatural hair color and strips your hair down to its natural self. If you're interested, it's in the haircolor aisle.

I think you should have a professional do it. as they are trained in such things...

Since you went darker you need to die it lighter first then back red. I would go into the stylist and ask them to fix it for you. If you are unhappy with it they should do it for free. You could try to just die it a lighter shade and see if that works for you, maybe tone it down a little bit. Its going to be very hard to get it to match the rest of your hair. Go in and talk to them, I'm sure they can help you. Just make sure if you don't like it you leave with it different, don't let them talk you into keeping it that way!

My Girlfriend is one of the top stylists in the US, she said you need to go get it done by a stylist, they need to bleach out the lowlights then they can redye and match your color, most store products will create more harm than good.

Well, I would hold off on re-coloring for a bit. How long has it been since you had it colored? Most of your darker shades will fade over time. You could try using a shampoo with a higher PH balance, that will strip the color each time you wash. The only problem with doing a tint-back is that they will use a very harsh bleach, or color stripper, that can be damaging to your hair. Especially if it was recently that you had this done. The cheap Suave shampoo at Wal-Mart will strip most color out. Was it black that you had put in, or just a darker red? If it was black, then I would talk to the stylist that done it for you, if it is just a darker red or brown, then let it fade, then the tint-back wouldn't be as severe. They wouldn't have to use a stripper, they could use the color that best matches your natural color with the proper volume of developer to lift it and deposit your red back into it. I would try this before I would chemically strip or bleach, and apply your red to it, this could cause you more problems then your having now. See, reds are the fastest fading of all colors. The molecules in the red hair color are smaller, so they are released from the cortex of your hair everytime your cuticle is opened at all. Heat of any kind can cause your cuticle to open (hot water, body heat, etc.). This is how hair is lightened during the bleaching process too. The chemicals in the bleach mixed with the developer opens the cuticle so that it can penetrate the cortex of your hair and lift out the color, if the cuticle is opened too far, it may get damaged or roughed, so that it doesn't shut down completely again. So if you did this, then put a red color over it, it would more than likely fade very fast and leave you with a very orangey looking highlight. Good luck, and don't do anything drastic!
